Shakertown Ride Is On!

The Shakertown ride is on! We will leave from Basil Griffith Park at 1pm Sunday, Sept. 23. The routes are 18-mile, 25-mile and 54-mile. Those riding the 54 mile route will be treated by the club to lunch at Nan’s Diner in Auburn, Ky. The menu is bake chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls, and for dessert apple crumb pie! Here is a link to the the route maps http://www.bglob.com/Maps/Shakertown_Map.pdf The 54 mile route will have a 2 mile deviation to get us to Nan’s Diner and then we will backtrack those 2 miles to return to the route that will bring us back to Basil. Book it! If you are planning to do the 54 mile ride and join us for lunch please email John Russell. We would like to give Nan a heads up on the number she will be serving.

Kids Try-athlon, Do-athlon and Fun Run

The Healthy Weight Kids Coalition of Southern Kentucky will host a Kid’s “Try”athlon, “Do”athlon and Fun Run beginning 8:30 a.m. at Russell Sims Aquatic Center for children ages 7-14 (free Fun Run for children 3-6).

“Try”athlon

  • 100 yard pool swim (set up short lanes in pool)
  • 1 mile bike on paved walking trail
  • 1/2 mile run around pool area

“Do”athlon

  • 1/2 mile run around pool area
  • 1 mile bike on paved walking trail
  • 1/2 mile run around pool area

Fun Run– 1/4 mile out-and-back dash in field

Trail Maintenance Day

Mammoth Cave National Park is organizing these trail maintenance days for 2007. All workdays start at 9:00 a.m. CST and meet at Maple Springs. If you would like to participate, please contact Johnny Johnson to find out if BGLOB has organized a crew to work on Sal Hollow or Turnhole Bend (the two trails open to cyclists). If we haven’t organized a crew for that day, the Park Service will still welcome your help. They will be tackling a variety of trails throughout the park.

Pizza Ride

The club will be buying pizza after the ride for BGLOB members. The ride starts at 5:30pm and pizza will be served around 7:15pm. RSVP at the park before the ride.

Cost: $5.00
Route: Marked routes of 18, 25 and 54 miles. Routes are flat but very scenic. The 54 mile route goes to beautiful Shakertown Museum at South Union.

The $5.00 entry fee covers our insurance fee, dinner and road marking supplies. We don’t offer roving sag or mechanical support on this ride, so please be prepared to change your own flats, etc.
