RE: Park seeks comment on Draft Trail Plan
As a mountain biker, I wish to let you know that a MODIFIED Alternative #4 is my preferred alternative. I would like to request that you allow for more than 6 miles of sustainable, singletrack trails be designed and built and that Sal Hollow remain hike & bike only until these new trails open. I also believe it is critically important to the success of this process that the local mountain bike community be granted a revised, more permanent Memorandum of Understanding – one similar to the 2005 M.O.U. between the National Park Service and the International Mountain Bicycling Association currently on file in Washington DC.
Additionally, as a way to optimize the overall trail experience for all groups, leaders from the local mountain biking, hiking and equestrian organizations have agreed to work toward a mutually beneficial solution. Collectively, we endorse the MODIFIED Alternate #4 and oppose Alternatives #2, #3 and #5 as none of these options satisfy any of the three primary, non-motorized user-groups.
I feel that mountain bikers have more than proven to be a responsible and legitimate user group over the past several years – contributing countless volunteer hours and promoting ethical trail use. The adoption of a MODIFIED Alternative #4 will ensure that we can continue to both enjoy and protect Mammoth Cave National Park for many years to come.
Sincerely,
